Air carrier representatives are meeting Transport Minister Petar Moutafchiev and Sofia airport management to find out when exactly the airport will be opened for flights, Bulgarian news agency Focus said on July 3 2008.
All flights were grounded earlier in the day after explosions in an army warehouse in the nearby Chelopechene village shook Sofia. Explosions are expected to continue during the day as there are about 1500 tons of ammunition stored in the warehouses, the Defence Ministry said.
Reports in the morning, which claimed that a shell got onto the runway of the airport, proved to be unfounded.
Some of the incoming flights have been redirected to Plovdiv airport. The airport management will supply passengers waiting at the airport with additional plastic chairs and portable toilets, Focus said.
Depending on the situation at the warehouse, Sofia airport might re-open for flights at 2.30pm.
