Bulgarian actor Hristo Shopov will play the role of Pontius Pilate in an Italian production L’Inchiesta Anno Domini XXXIII.

A number of world-famous actors will take part in the film, Pronto Sofia reported. Italian legend Ornella Muti, Max von Sydov, Dolph Lundgren, Oscar winner Oscar Murray Abraham, Spanish actress Monica Cruz and former Miss Italy Anna Kanakis are part of the cast.

The film will be re-make of the famous film from 1986, starring Keith Carradine and Harvey Keitel. The film is based on research of the resurrection of Jesus.
 
Shopov already has experience in the role, as he played Pontius Pilate in Mel Gibson’s super-production The Passion of the Christ.
 
The film will be shot in Tunisia and in Bulgaria. Italian television RAI will be the first to air it, Pronto Sofia said.
