The children of Mogilino social care home could be sheltered at a new home, built for them especially in Varna, Darik Radio reported on May 15.
The idea belongs to Varna mayor Kiril Iordanov and had already been discussed with Unicef representatives for Bulgaria. Varna city hall and the Unicef Bulgaria signed a memorandum for partnership, with Unicef pledging to provide funding for the construction and equipment of the home, while Varna authorities would grant the land for the construction.
Iordanov said that Unicef experts had already visited and approved the lot for the construction in Vladislavovo neighbourhood. The capacity and the cost of the project are still being discussed, he said, as quoted by Darik.
All children with mental disabilities from the Varna region could also be sheltered in the home to be built.
The Mogilino social cares home gain sad fame when a BBC documentary showed the poor living conditions in the home. In the end of 2007, Labour and Social Policy Minister Emilia Maslarova said that the home would be closed.
