Defending champion Venus Williams won her fifth Wimbledon title after winning against her younger sister Serena in straight sets (7-5, 6-4) on July 5 2008.

It is Venus' third Wimbledon trophy in just four years which makes her one of the All England Club's legends.

She now has seven Grand Slam victories on her record. The win also meant that Venus has managed to put an end to her negative record against Serena.

The two sisters have played six Grand Slam finals before this year's Wimbledon, of which Venus has won just one in 2001 at the US open.

The match started under the impression that Serena will have full control over her sister. After the first few games however Venus came back and left no doubt who was going to win the game.

The fact that there were two sisters playing was noticed in the seventh game of the first set when the umpire asked the players to replay a point. Serena refused and gave the point to her sister which meant a 5-4 advantage for Venus.

"My first job is big sister and I take it very seriously" the winner told the crowd in her first interview, while still on Wimbledon's lawn, bbc.co.uk reported.

"It's hard for all of them (the Williams family) but I'd like to thinks they want me to win" she said, winning the smiles of the people on the stands.

Serena still has something to look forward to in Wimbledon, as she will play in the women's doubles final in a pair with her sister. "Serena deserves a win so I am really gonna try even harder for that" Venus said.

The Williams sister will play against Lisa Raymond for the US and Australia's Samantha Stosur.
