The Bulgarian nomination for best foreign-language film at the 2010 Oscars, The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks around the Corner, directed by Stefan Komandarev, won two full-length film awards at the 12th Benalmadena International Short Film Festival held in Malaga on October 16-24. The film won the jury and the audience awards, the first time in the festival’s history that one film won both awards.

On October 26, the Regional Development Ministry and the Bulgarian Construction Chamber hosted a ceremony marking the day of the construction worker in Bulgaria. At the annual Top 50+ construction companies ranking, two awards went to Glavbolgarstroy company, and one to Balkanstroy, Planex Holding and the state company Construction and Restoration.

At Helikon bookshop on October 10, the first part of the Bulgarian-language version of Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged was launched, and in a fortnight the book became the book chain’s fourth most-sold book in the literature category. Presiding at the book launch were publisher Kalin Manolov, translator Petyo Angelov, editor Iskra Angelova and economist Luchezar Bogdanov.
