President of the French association Together Against the Death Penalty Micheel Taube said the imprisonment of the Bulgarian medics in Libya needs to end.

February 9 marks the seventh year of the Bulgarians' stay in Libyan prison. Various organisations arranged protests meetings to mark the date, the Bulgarian National Radio reported.

Taube said the court proceedings need to be taken out of Benghazi, where the infection of Libyan children with HIV took place. As the events occured in the city, an impartial trial in Benghazi is impossible, Taube said.

The Belgian senate accepted a resolution in support of the five Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor tried for the allegedly intentional infection. The document aims at pressuring Tripoli authorities to conclude the trial fast.

Today a protest will occur in front of the Libyan embassy in Sofia, to mark the beginning of the nurses' eighth year in prison, Focus news agency reported.
