A partial solar eclipse could be observed on the territory of Bulgaria yesterday. It began at 12:38 pm local time and ended at 15:04 pm.

At the maximum phase up to 76 per cent of the sun surface wer obscured for observers in Sofia, Focus news agency reported. The phase was also observable in Shoumen around 2 pm.

The closest place to Bulgaria from where the total eclipse was seen is Antalya, Turkey.  Scientist from different countries, including Bulgarians witnessed the eclipse in Turkey, Darik radio reported.

People in Sofia were able to observe the phenomenon from the observatory of the Sofia University. Two small telescopes and a screen were positioned outside the observatory.

The last total solar eclipse occurred on August 11 1999. It could be observed from Europe, Western Asia and North Africa.
