Municipality of coastal town of Varna was forced to close the south beach in the town as the sea water is extremely dirty.

The main reason for the pollution was the purification system which is too old and it failed to meet the needs of the  population, Bulgarian National Radio reported.

Nearly 20 constructions in the region also cause pollution.

Experts from regional administration have been working on a programme to deal with the problem.

The sea along the south beach is currently eight times more polluted than the levels accepted. The beach will be opened, if the sea water indicators return to normal levels.
