The Acquisition, ownership, carrying and use of automatic firearms would be forbidden under changes in the Law on Explosive Substances, Firearms and Ammunition, discussed for second reading in Parliament on November 8 2007.

In exceptional cases, the use of firearms could be allowed under a special permit by the Interior Minster, Bulgarian News Agency BTA reported.

Exceptions would be allowed for guards of high-risk objects, BTA said.

The proposed changes had previously been accepted in first reading in October 2007.
