Foreign tourists accounted for more than a half of total revenue accrued by Bulgarian hotels during this year's summer season, data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said.

For the third quarter of this year, when the summer season was in its peak, hotels registered a total of 386 711 565 leva in revenue of which 307 982 108 came from the pockets of foreign tourists, NSI said.

Predictably, the two biggest Bulgarian Black Sea cities of Bourgas and Varna topped the ranking in accumulated revenue: Bourgas with 160 022 921 leva and Varna with 126 379 467 leva.

The two municipalities include a number of Black Sea resorts which explains the numbers and the fourth position of Dobrich (29 522 783 leva), which is not on the Black Sea coast but administers the Albena resort. Sofia is third with 29 940 109 leva.
