Greek police has arrested a man on suspicion that he was involved in the acid attack on union official Kostadinka Kouneva, Bulgarian Focus news agency quoted Greek media on February 24 2009.

The suspect is an ethnic Albanian and, according to Greek media, he has threatened Kouneva in the days before the attack on her. Kouneva was splashed with acid on December 23 2008 in Athens and since then has been in critical condition after losing one of her eyes.

Police believes that the attack was related to her activity as secretary of a Greek union of cleaners and domestic servants.

The 48-year-old suspect has worked as a cleaner himself and was originally picked up for a traffic violation, Greek media quoted police. During his interrogation police, found out the link to Kouneva's attack. He allegedly took part in the attack on Kouneva by standing in her way while his accomplice splashed acid on her face.
