A police inspector from Breznik, a small town approximately 45km west of Sofia, has caused a fatal car accident that resulted in the death of two innocent youths, the Ministry of Interior reported, quoted by Dnevnik daily.
At approximately 8.50pm on February 26, a four by four police vehicle Gaz 66 surged into the opposite lane of traffic and smashed into a Pernik-registered Alfa Romeo, driven by a 20-year-old male. The driver and his 17-year-old female companion apparently died instantly.
Emergency crews managed to pull the 40-year-old police inspector from the wreckage site. He was then taken to a hospital in Pernik for treatment.
His condition is reported to be stable. Although he has a head trauma his life is not reported to be in danger. A blood sample has been retrieved to determine if he was intoxicated.
