Kindergarten enrolment starts on April 6
Kindergarten enrollments in Sofia will start again on Monday April 6 2009.
In the previous year, kindergarten placing was solely determined by the date and exact time of the registration. For the purpose, a new online enrolment system had been introduced, which turned out to be unable to handle the numerous simultaneous connections and collapsed.
The resulting chaos led to deputy mayor for education Yordanka Fandukova handing in her resignation, which was not accepted by Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov.
This year, placement will be based on a points system. Points are based on current or permanent address of the family, and whether or not the parents of the child work or study in Sofia, among others. Additional points will be given when the child has brothers or sisters who have gone to the same school, or when the parents work within the educational system.
Enrolments will close on May 21. Two days later, the first classifications are expected to be ready.
