He had already been short-listed for the Gaudenz B. Ruf Award 2009, which is to be awarded later in the year, but on June 18, Samuil Stoyanov was presented with the Baza (Base) award.
Stoyanov was one of six artists who had been shortlisted by the Institute for Contemporary Art Sofia for the award, which has been presented for the second time.
Other nominated artists were Bora Petkova, Georgi Georgiev - Jorrras, Vikenti Komitski, Stamenov H. and Kamen Stoyanov.
The jury consisted of Maria Vassileva, Iara Bubnova, Stanislav Pamoukchiev, Kiril Prashkov and Ventsislav Zankov.
Stoyanov, who lives and works in his native [[map:Dobrich|Dobrich, Bulgaria|]], was given a scholarship and a six-week stay at the International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York, provided with support from the Civil Society Foundation in New York.
