Nikolay Metodiev 'Pileto' allowed to travel abroad
The Sofia city court has permitted Nikolay Metodiev 'Pileto' to leave Bulgaria during the summer. The latest development in the case, which revolved around Pileto and 18 other people accused of black marketing and illegal smuggling of Chinese merchandise worth nearly four million leva, has been reported by Dnevnik daily.
According to the prosecution, the organisation had smuggled in illegal Chinese merchandise in 2003 through the Kalotina and Kulata border checkpoints. Two of the accused had not appeared in court as they are currently abroad and have been subsequently declared as 'wanted' by Bulgarian authorities.
The magistrates partially agreed to grant Metodiev's plea to lift his travel ban abroad. He has been allowed to travel from July 15 until September 2 for business trips only, the report says.
The process has been delayed in the past due to errors in the prosecutors' statement. Until know, a total of 128 witnesses have been summoned in court hearings, and the case is set to resume on October 5.
