As of June 30 2009 all children's files, registered with Justice Ministry's council for international adoption, have been processed and not a single child was waiting for action to be taken by the council, the Justice Ministry said on June 30 2009.

This is unprecedented in the work of the council. The irregularity of its sessions was a criticism often raised by intermediary organisations against Justice Minister Meglena Tacheva's predecessor, Georgi Petkanov, who resigned in the spring of 2007, citing personal reasons.

Since Tacheva appointed her deputy, Ilonka Raichinova as head of the council at the end of 2007, the council has held 52 sessions.
In the last 18 and-a-half months of its work the council has processed 568 applications for the adoption of 632 children. Tacheva has authorised the adoption of 286 children based on the work of the council.
