NOVEMBER 27 sees the start of the Olympic Torch Relay from Olympia in Greece to Turin, host of the 2006 Winter Olympics.
The 20th Winter Olympics opens in the Italian city on February 10, and competitor countries are stepping up their preparations.
According to Bulgarian-language media reports, the country will be sending a delegation of 90 to Turin, including sports people, coaches, managers and guests.

The golf course at St Sofia Golf Club and Spa opens this weekend, April 9 and 10, coinciding with a major landmark in sports broadcasting in Bulgaria - bTV showing the US Masters.
On April 8, the course at St Sofia will be open to all golfers to play, and for some final rounds of practice before the tournament the following day. Sunday's tournament will be played over one round, in Stableford format.

FOOTBALL giant CSKA, popularly known as the Reds for their livery, have appointed Serbian Miodrag Jesic as their new head coach, with his compatriot Zoran Kraljevic as his deputy.
Kraljevic was Svalia's head coach during the 2002-2003 season, while Jesic previously was the coach of Bulgarian football club Slavia, Belgrade's Partizan, Turkey's Altay, and Iran's Pegah.

NOTWITHSTANDING Bulgarian national football team head coach Hristo Stoichkov's prediction of victory, the friendly on February 9 between Bulgaria and Serbia-Montenegro played to a goalless draw.
The match was played in sub-zero temperatures, and the Ministry of Defence stepped in to provide 1000 blankets to chilly spectators at Sofia's Vassil Levski stadium.

IS Bulgarian football legend Hristo Stoichkov ready to step down as head coach of Bulgaria's national team to defect to Barcelona?
Reports to this effect, based on remarks he made in his regular column in Spanish sports newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, caused a major stir in Bulgaria.

BULGARIA'S Magdalena Maleeva advanced at the Australian Open in Melbourne on January 19 after defeating Russia's Alina Zhidkova.
Maleeva, who is 22nd in the rankings, beat Zhidkova 6-4 7-5. Zhidkova is ranked 54th in the world.
Maleeva was due to play a third round match the winner of a game between 11th seed Russian Nadya Petrova and Australia's Sophie Ferguson in the next round.

THE battle to succeed controversial Ivan Slavkov as head of the Bulgarian Football Union, another of the many posts he holds, is set to come to a head on January 17.
Slavkov's career as a leader of sports bodies has hit severe turbulence following a recommendation by the International Olympic Committee executive, expected to be endorsed at an IOC general assembly meeting in Singapore in July, that he be ousted from the IOC.
