On September 14, Bulgaria lost one of its most prominent archaeologists and Thracian scholars, Georgi Kitov. He died of a heart attack suddenly at the age of 65.
Kitov and his team dedicated 12 years of their lives digging four months a year, 18 hours a day, in a competition with tomb raiders to search through what is called Bulgaria's Valley of the (Thracian) Kings, heavily-forested 100km region in the centre of the country.

Mayors of Sofia and Silistra, Boiko Borissov and Ivo Andonov, singed a contract for the storage of 180 000 tons of baled refuse from Sofia at the Silistra refuse dump, Dnevnik daily reported.

Alitalia customers at Sofia Airport will be unpleasantly surprised to find out that the company's flights to Rome on September 17 had been cancelled.
The company would cancel a total of 40 flights from and to Amsterdam, Belgrade, Bucharest, Kiev, Lisbon, Madrid, Milan, Nice, Paris, Sofia and Verona, which were to be serviced between 12am and 4pm Central European Summer Time, Alitalia said in a statement on its website late on the evening of September 16.
