Dec 19 2008 10:00 CET by Nelly Lozanova

When the winter chill seeps through to your bones, when all of your muscles are tense both from the cold and the awkward position you assume in your chair in front of a computer, what would be a good winter warmer? A cup of hot tea or cappuccino? Not enough. This spa experience does so much more.

RESTAURANT REVIEW: Hitriya Petel (Хитрия петел)

RESTAURANT REVIEW: Hitriya Petel (Хитрия петел)

May 16 2008 16:00 CET by Nelly Lozanova

I stumbled upon Hitriya Petel (The Cunning Rooster, named after a Bulgarian folk tale) in early March, while looking for refreshments after a shopping tour. The building near the "little five corners", off Graf Ignatiev Street, had until recently housed the pizzeria Zion and the change came as a surprise. Another surprise was the creative menu where the chicken ice cream stood out and overrode my decision to only have a drink.

Jul 30 2007 09:00 CET by Nelly Lozanova

The Grotesque King

Jul 16 2007 09:00 CET by Nelly Lozanova

Me being me, though, I occasionally indulge in challenging my paradigms and exposing myself to things I generally consider shocking or repulsive, watching Quentin Tarantino movies and exploring the art of photographer Andres Serrano being some of the examples. And there I was, on US Independence Day, wrung out from the snug comfort of my routine, on my way to

World-famous bands rock `the white city'
May 14 2007 09:00 CET by Nelly Lozanova

Travelling to an unfamiliar city made me feel uneasy. But before I left home to catch the night train to Belgrade, my boyfriend assured me that it would not be much different from Sofia. On the cool spring morning of my arrival, about 6am, Belgrade was not awake yet and the only sounds came from occasional trams. The building of the train station, glowing in a warm yellow at sunrise, indeed reminded me of

THE DIARY

THE DIARY

Sep 25 2006 09:00 CET by Nelly Lozanova

Monday, 11am. The Features Editor comes knocking at my door. "Hi, I know I owe you a diary," I say even before she has opened her mouth. I promise her to write it in the evening and deliver it the next day. I am quite convinced that I will produce a masterpiece to follow up "the diary of the future". Yet this time my mind is buzzing with thoughts to such an extent that I am helpless and overwhelmed by them and I can't decide

The diary

May 29 2006 09:00 CET by Nelly Lozanova

Monday, May 22. I do design. Or, rather, design does me. It's Monday, 8.30 pm, and I have just arrived home straight from work. Today I single-handedly finished a 24-page magazine. I did it in three working days - quite the feat, as I have been doing a bunch of tiny things in the meantime: scanning somebody's photo of something, sending some logo to someone, opening some ad and converting it into a usable

Bend it like Bikram

Nov 28 2004 13:00 CET by Nelly Lozanova

The mind is like a drunken monkey, Swami Niranjan-ananda had said, it constantly jumps here and there. Amidst ringing phones, the steady traffic through the front office and the chatter of colleagues, I remember the voice of my yoga teacher saying: "If your mind is not right here, right now, focused on this practice, pull it gently back to the present".
